Cyberbullying and Girls

27 Mar

Social media affects teenage girls and the relationship that the two have, was released in a book in 2011. The author also gave an interview about how more widespread it is becoming and how teenagers-girls especially- are being affected by this.

In the interview, the author  talks about the concern that with cyberbullying, it is constantly with your teenager. It is like it was years ago, you got bullied and went home to your safe haven, you could escape and feel protected.. Cyberbullying is a constant part of your daughter/sons life.  The threats are there constantly, on her computer at home in her bedroom or on his cell phone in his pocket.

Cyberbullying is so common among teenage girls because they are to scared to confront the person or voice there opinion face to face.  Texting makes it much easier.

Parents can take control of these situations… Take the phone away at night, away for him/her. Engage in more activities with your teen, which will take there mind off what is going on… Maybe, it will give them the opportunity to open up about what is going on… Always be honest with your kids if they ask any questions.

You are there role models and they learn by example.  Let them know they can talk to you about anything at anytime. Always try to be positive, but do not sugar coat it.  If you want them to trust you and go to you for answers, be honest , truthful and tell them like it is, of course, age appropriate for each child…
